Week 3 - Malware Mitigation

One of the things that stuck out to me this week is the amount of mitigation techniques used to prevent malware. As we know, Malware can have high-level potency in how it affects the computer systems. According to the reading, the best strategy to prevent malware is to be proactive. I agree with this approach because if you are proactive, you are taking security into your hands as much as possible. This means making sure that you take control of what is being done on these systems.

Now in terms of ways to defend yourself against malware, here were some of the key points I found to be insightful:

  • Making sure anti-malware software is kept updates and patched
  • Running frequent scans on systems to see what may have bypassed real time protection
  • Removing any malware by isolating it on off of the system.
There are some other points that were made from the reading, but I found these to be the most important in terms of ease on the user and steps that aren't that technical. Following these steps as well as being careful about what is installed on the system will ensure that anti-malware practices are in place.
